Summary: Ducky is not happy with Gibbs, over what went down in autopsy.
Messed Up
Gibbs walked into the break-room and found Ducky sitting at one of the tables stirring his tea rather briskly. It was rather obvious Ducky was angry, and Gibbs knew it was about what had happened in the autopsy room.
"Duck," Gibbs muttered as he sat down next to the older man.
"Jethro, I am not in a good mood right now; so unless you want your head bitten off I suggest you go back to the squad-room," Ducky declared, not looking at Gibbs.
"This is about what happened down there," Gibbs continued.
"Well of course Jethro," Ducky responded, coldly.
"It was-," Gibbs began.
"Do not justify it," Ducky interrupted, "I know it may have assisted you with your case, but it does not mean it was not brutality. He was barely an adult. There must have been other ways to crack the case. And you used my autopsy room to perform this torture."
Gibbs took a deep breath as he absorbed Ducky's words. He and Tony had both seen the interrogation in autopsy as the only way to get information from the kid, who had try to out run them. Gibbs initially thought Ducky was overreacting but then he remembered what he knew from Ducky's time at the camp in Afghanistan. Ducky had seen what happened when scenes far worse than the one in autopsy were the rule not the exception.
"Duck," Gibbs whispered. "I'm sorry,"
"What for?" Ducky asked as he determined that his not drunk tea was cold, "Scaring the young man,"
"Upsetting you," Gibbs declared.
"Next time you want to do that, keep me out of it," Ducky begged as he got up. Gibbs nodded and neither bothered to say anything further as Ducky slipped out of the break-room.
God, he'd really screwed it up this time.
