The room had the quiet, tense air of suppressed grief. He blinked a few times to get rid of the stinging in his eyes as he walked back in.
Everyone made way for him to walk to their friend's side. Yugi was still sniffling and wiping his eyes in their heart, and he let out a silent whoosh of breath to steady themselves.
Jounouchi-kun was very still. He decided abruptly that he didn't like it. So vivacious a man shouldn't lie so tremulously, even in rest. Most especially not one who gives so much for his loved ones.
His duel disk was placed neatly next to his friend. Blinking curiously at it, he wondered why it wasn't on one of the nearby tables, or even tucked away on the floor out of others' ways.
Picking it up, he examined it idly, a thought beginning to form in his mind. Yugi perked his attention curiously at his actions.
It was just beginning to lose the warmth of its owner, and he supposed the heat from the duel. He nodded once to himself, minutely.
Shizuka-chan glanced at him in bewilderment as he slid it on her brother's arm. The others stirred from their contemplative daze, and he could feel their unvoiced questions at his back.
It slid on smoothly, catching only a bit on the bulge of muscle on the upper part of his arm.
"Jounouchi-kun," he stated firmly, addressing the prone body on the bed, "I'm headed to the duel ring where Kaiba's waiting. So you stay here and keep fighting! As a Duelist!"
It was the best he could do for his dear friend. He swept past the others in the room, dutifully ignoring their whispers surrounding him as he started plotting strategies for his and Yugi's upcoming Duel.
He could do nothing less, for someone who had done so much.
