Phineas sat at the foot of his bed, staring at the calendar on the wall. The word AUGUST made his stomach flip. Summer would be over before he knew it. 'But it only just started!' he thought to himself. If only summer would never end. Maybe then Phineas could spend it without worrying about the time he and Ferb had left to fit everything they wanted to do in one summer. Just as the thought occurred, another slid in beside it. If Ferb were in the room, he would have announced that he knew what he was going to do that day.
"Do you ever wonder when school will start up again?"
Phineas flinched. He hated hearing that question. "Why would you think of school during summer vacation?"
Isabella shrugged, "I don't know. It just seems like a really long summer, that's all."
Phineas gazed at the grass beside him as Isabella looked up at the stars above. It was just them under the tree that night. Ferb and Lawrence had taken a special trip for the weekend, just the two of them. Isabella was taking every moment to fill Ferb's place next to Phineas.
"I've just been thinking. June and July went by so fast, but August is dragging on and on. Have you noticed that?"
Phineas shifted uncomfortably, "I just make the best of every day. I don't think about it."
"But isn't it interesting? Usually it goes faster, but this year, it's going so slow." Isabella looked at Phineas this time. Phineas looked back at her, knowing he couldn't keep it to himself any longer.
"Isabella," he started, "school isn't going to start for a long time."
"I know, it's still the middle of August."
"No, I mean longer than that," he tried to explain.
Isabella was visibly confused, "I don't understand."
Phineas let out a deep breath and began, "It will be summer forever. No one will age. No one will question. No one will think anything of it."
Isabella smiled, amused, "Well, if you think of it like that, of course summer will last forever."
"No," Phineas shook his head, "I made it summer forever. August will never end. School will never open again."
Isabella turned from confused to frightened to angry in a matter of seconds. "I see. So you can alter time and space but you can't realize that I love you?" Isabella rose and stormed out of the backyard, returning to her house.
Phineas called after her, "Isabella, wait! Wait!" She was out of sight. Phineas mumbled to himself, "I'm sorry. I couldn't."
