There's a reason why Neal loves Italian shoes. Dress or casual, it doesn't matter. They're style, but in all honesty, it's not just the look, they have so much more to say. They're trustworthy. They represent a bond between man and reality, between a person and the floor. It's not easy to be grounded when the environment decides to create difficulties. It's support that's necessary in order to stay classy. Peter Burke is Neal Caffrey's 'classy'. So when Neal tells Peter that he prefers Italian Leather, he doesn't mean the man's shoes. Peter is the Italian Leather grounding him. On the other hand, it's a bond between two men, one of trust, but also one of worry. Neal figures that, sometimes, it's nice to be worried about.
