REU-Night

Bandfest 2015. The final night of the bands and dance for the seniors. The ultimate night, the last night of fun before they all leave for college.

"You're not coming?!" Tenten exclaimed, looking just about ready to pull her hair out as she stared at him. He was sitting casually on the beanbag chair, guitar in hand as he stared back.

"I can't go. I told you," he said. Again, not saying anything more than that. Hyuuga Neji was never one for deep elaboration.

"But the band is playing," Tenten argued, sitting on the floor across him. "How can you not go if the band is playing?"

He crossed his arms over his chest and said nothing more. Such was the ways of Hyuuga Neji.

Clearly frustrated at trying to reason with him, Tenten left. She flounced off and shut the door behind her. Neji looked at the door for a moment before playing a few chords on his guitar.

'Stupid rocker!' Tenten muttered, walking by herself. Of all the men she could fall in love with, she had to fall for…him. Neji was never the most affectionate nor open boyfriend she had ever had. He kept things to himself, even when Tenten would prod him. After all the mess and fury that the courtship caused, Tenten never thought that the actual relationship was so imperfect. It just pissed her off all the more.

"I mean, come on. How corny is the name REU-Night?"

"Yeah, talk about bad taste."

As much as Tenten enjoyed putting down oppressive institutions like the student council, she just wasn't in the mood. REU-Night was here and since she figured that she would just hang out with her friends, Tenten went. She wore the clothes that she had meticulously picked out days before, when she thought Neji was coming. The Rock God's girlfriend. She certainly looked the part. But without the Rock God himself, it just wasn't the same.

'"And now we present tonight's guest band, Nukenin!"

The cheers that swept through the crowd was unanimous, instantaneous and loud. Tenten was not unfamiliar to this anymore. Because she loved the band (I mean, who wouldn't love Kiba's insane drumming skills or Sasuke's steady bass hits?), she cheered along too. Although not at all surprised that Neji wasn't onstage. Stupid man. If Tenten could only get her hands on him she would wring his neck and bang his head against the wall a few times so he could get the picture.

She wanted to spend the concert with HIM.

"Hey," a voice said behind her and Tenten turned. Her eyes widened for a moment before she hid her surprise.

"You said you weren't coming," she said to Neji.

He smirked and wrapped his arms around her. His favorite feeling in the world.

"Surprise," he whispered to her ear and then let go. Tenten scowled and slapped his arm.

"Shut up," she said, watching the band quietly. She heard Neji laugh a little.

"Aren't you sweet," he said sarcastically, hugging her from behind. Tenten smiled to herself. In the end, Neji knew what made her tick. He knew how to surprise her and how to make her laugh. Maybe that was why she adored him so much.
