Small intro...
It was nice, shopping for two. Occasionally Nick would try to drag Carla along to the supermarket with him for their weekly shop where he'd fill up his fridge or her fridge, wherever they were spending the most time that given week. They practically lived together, yet neither would actually brave asking the other to move in - too scared to ruin what seemed too good to be true.
Most of the time though, she left him to it, claiming she had too much paperwork to dream of trapsing around Freshcos with screaming kids and too much grown up stuff and not enough red wine. Nick had of course informed her that the 'grown up stuff' was necessities they needed to survive but Carla was having none of it. Apparently she only needed a large glass of red and a bag of crisps to survive. He didn't mention the endless supply of Bistro meals she often managed to get though.
Today was one of the times his bribes of chocolate and wine just weren't working and somehow he'd ended up shopping alone and with a list of things his girlfriend required. Apparently her ideas of necessary were two bottles of red wine, a large pack of salt and vinegar crisps, the green pringles and some penguin bars. Nick made a mental note to talk to her about her awful diet at some point soon.
Distracted from his thoughts, Nick gave a soft chuckle and smiled at the blonde woman in front of him by the wines, reaching up to try and grab something from the top shelf. He passed her the wine with a friendly smile, "That's my girlfriends favourite too," he noted as he past her the red wine and she turned to look at him with a grateful smile. He was caught off guard by how green her eyes were, like Carla's almost except perhaps less striking.
"Thanks so much, I always have been too short to reach the top shelf." She laughed happily, her accent posh and southern.
"Ah well this is where my partner would tell you you're wearing the wrong shoes!" Nick smiled, noting her jeans and battered trainers with another polite chuckle, making small talk as he grabbed the wine Carla had requested.
"Moving in clothes!" The pretty blonde laughed, "Ive just moved up here with my boyfriend so I'm blaming my slobbiness on that." She was polite and charming, far more open than Nick imagined Carla had ever been. Then again, he wondered if she'd faced even half the adversity Carla had.
"I'm Kate by the way." She held her hand out which Nick shook and threw her back a warm smile, "Maybe Weatherfield won't be so scary after all."
Nick raised his eyebrows, "Nick." He informed her, nodding, "I own a Bistro in Weatherfield, you should pop in once you're settled, have a drink. I've heard it's a lovely place. Great staff." He smirked and Kate responded with a chuckle, "I definitely will. It'd be nice to get to know a few people, I don't know anyone except my boyfriend!"
Picking his basket back up, Nick smiled, "Well I'll be sure to introduce you. I best get home before I get calls asking for her penguin bars." He laughed fondly, saying his goodbyes and finishing up, heading home to Carla to enjoy his night off.
