He'd never once given serious thought to the phrase "opposites attract." It had always been a purely irrelevant fact of life, pertaining only to the World of the Living. Yet, the humans treated such a thing as if it were a universal factor, having used it to define both the concepts of the planet's magnetic pull and love. The first was understandable, as the theory was something he was quite familiar with. But the latter was nothing more than stupidity. Using such a thing to define love was utterly ridiculous.

Had his theory proven itself true, he certainly would have said as much. But, with the situation being what it was, denying it wasn't an option. At least, not when the contradiction was staring him in the face. Her eyes were gentle, forgiving. There was no secret judgment hidden within them. She was pure, honest, innocent. Everything he could never have been, and nothing he wanted to be. Foolish as it was, the humans' pitiful concept had proven itself, using him as the subject.

Irritating as it was, being used as a pawn in a game that was out of his reach, he had forced himself to consent and enjoy what had been offered.

Strangely, she hadn't exhibited the classic behaviors that he had grown accustomed to. The usual wasn't bad, merely irritating. They were right to fear him, of course, but the classical symptoms of said fear weren't nearly as amusing as they had been the first hundred times. Fortunately, she was nothing like the rest of them. She held her ground with him, staring him in the eye as if she were simply carrying on a normal conversation. To her, he wasn't a monster.

She had been the first to see that, beneath the black and white facade, he had gradually faded into a more neutral presence. Her persistence had paid off, having steadily coaxed him into a more relaxed state. His temper had failed to get the better of him over a period of several days. A factor that his subordinates were sure to notice.

To say the least, she'd somehow wormed her way into his affections, prying open secrets and truths that were better left forgotten.

I meant to post this last Friday, but fanfiction wouldn't let me upload. So, I decided to give it a few days, and purposely delayed after Saturday so I could post it on March 30, but that didn't work either, thanks to the shitty errors fanfiction is experiencing...
