Sam broke from cover, yelling at the massive creature, desperate to drag its attention away from Dean, pinned to a tree. He threw stones at the creature, shotgun raised and waiting in his other hand.

It worked. The whatever-the-heck-it-was swiveled its fugly head and fierce red eyes glared at Sam. Feeling like he'd been skewered with a flaming spear, Sam's knees folded and he faceplanted. He heard gunfire as he drifted into all-encompassing heat.

BREAK

Sam's eyes slit open, watching Dean fold a damp washcloth and gently placed it on his forehead. ""D'n?"

"Fever's slacking off, Sammy. You're gonna be okay."

A/N: After the hold/fold mixup this week, I couldn't get The Gambler song out of my head, so I used it for the title. It fits, sort of;-) has decided to drop my SNSNSNSNSN scene break, so I've changed it to BREAK (which will hopefully be acceptable). If not, please add a mental scene break between all-encompassing heat and Sam's eyes. Thank you!
