Troublesome

For Durgas Dragon

Clouds floated lazily over his head and Shikamaru sighed happily. This was exactly what he wanted after a day teaching those troublesome brats at the academy. He still wasn't sure how he had been roped into that one. But this quiet almost made up for it.

There was no noise around him as he continued to watch the white fluff pass by. Quiet serenity, so perfect it should never have been disturbed.

Which explained why, just as he'd relaxed and found the perfect position for his head; a loud crunch broke through his quiet reverie. He looked over at his companion in feigned surprise. Really, he had expected something to disturb his peace.

"Sorry," the brunette mumbled around his mouthful of chips and Shikamaru sighed and shook his head.

"It's okay, Chouji."

He turned his attention back to what he could see of the sky above him. The skylight didn't afford him much of a view but he concluded that it was either this or catch a cold watching the clouds in the rain. Besides Chouji had gone to the effort of planning this little in-door picnic for him and Shikamaru would be damned if he even considered complaining.

It wasn't often that Chouji took the initiative and Shikamaru deemed it something worthy of celebration.

He looked over at Chouji with a small smile forming on his face.

"What," Chouji asked self-consciously. "Do I have something on my face?"

Shikamaru almost told him that yes; he did have chip crumbs on his face but then thought better of it. Instead he stood and gestured for the other man to follow suit.

"Where are we going," the brunette continued curiously.

"We're going home," Shikamaru replied patiently.

"Why?" Chouji dusted himself off and looked at his companion.

"Because Asuma-sensei wouldn't like to come home and find us fucking on the floor," he explained casually.

"Okay… Huh?" Chouji's brows furrowed in surprised confusion. "What about Kurenai-sensei?"

Shikamaru looked at him with a smile. "She'd want to watch and take pictures."

"Oh yeah…. Yeah, we better go then." He took Shikamaru's hand and led the grinning boy out of their teacher's apartment, heading in the direction and privacy of their own. "Kurenai-sensei is weird."
