Thatcher was sitting in his living room when his wife came in and placed a magazine down on the table.
"Maybe its time for that call" she said with a sad face
"No she wants nothing to do with me"
"Just look at the cover"
It was a people magazine. Across the cover was Meredith and what he assumed was he husband lying on a bed both facing a baby, smiling like fools.
Scared to death about what the title of the article said, he didn't want to read it, but looked any way. The title read "Career and Family; in this case do mix"
The next picture he saw was Meredith and Derek Shepherd standing back to back in their navy blue scrubs.
Under was an article about how Derek and Meredith had made an amazing break threw together they are called the Shepherd Squad.
"Well apparently she found happiness why should I bother her" he thought out loud.
As he red the article he became enthused with the one answer:
A: so how did you and Derek meet?
M[laughing well it all started in a bar with a one night stand…
A: a one night stand interesting... but what obstacles did you face during your office romance
M: well I had my resident putting me through hoops because he was an attending and well I was an intern, then we had the incident of a wife
A: A WIFE he had a wife
M: yes but he divorced her as soon as she came to Seattle… then we had a bomb in the hospital
A: a bomb really how were you tied into that
M: my hand was on the bomb and I had to pull it out.
Thatcher stopped reading , he couldn't think of her almost dieing… then he red down a little further and stopped dead in his tracks... father questions oh goodie.
A: so tell me about your father Meredith
M: I don't really know him me and my mother left when I was five to Boston then one day while I was working in Seattle Grace his other daughter shows up… but that's all I know
A: ok then…. If you could pick any song for the life before you married Derek what would it be?
M: ummmm probably Dirty Little Secrets by the All-American Rejects.
A: interesting.. How
about after you got married?
M: most defiantly Cloud Nine by
Evanescence
A: wow someone's happy
M: very… very happy
A: well onto the kid what's his name
M: Kaden Thatcher Shepherd born August 4, 2007 weighing 7 pounds 6 ounce
A: oohhh wow what is his best quality
M: he has his father's hair but my eyes, he is a perfect mix of both of us!
A: well Meredith thank you for joining us and we hope he grows big and strong
M: thank you.
Thatcher was crying, why had she made his name the baby's middle name?
He got up to call her house. A man he thought was Derek answered the phone.
"Umm hello are either Meredith or Derek shepherd there?"
"Yes hold on a minute" He heard the phone being put down and a baby crying.
"Hello this is Meredith shepherd"
"Hi this is ummmm your father"
"Well… I have one question for you then"
"Ok shoot"
"why didn't you call earlier, if you had maybe you could have been apart of this family, but im fixed now so I don't need you anymore the wounds you have made are to deep for you to fix them now" she sounded like she was crying and she hung up the phone.
Astounded Thatcher put the phone down and went to sit down. He looked at her smiling face in all the photos, he had missed one, it was Derek and Meredith looking at each other smiling, but he knew that look Derek had on his face. It was the one Richard gave Ellis, one of complete passion and love. She was right maybe was fixed and that maybe the wounds were to deep.
