It had been almost a year since the defeat of Gaea and the Giants. Percy, Annabeth, Nico, Thalia(who had recently quit the whole Hunter of Artemis thing), the rest of the seven, and a bunch of the other senior counsellors from various cabins, such as Katie Gardner from the Demeter cabin, Connor and Travis Stoll from the Hermes cabin, and Ian Soran from the Thanatos cabin, had been summoned to Olympus. Needless to say, it was a rather cramped elevator ride, 600 floors up.

Once they arrived on Olympus, they were somewhat in awe of the place, at least, those who had not been there before. However, everyone noticed that it was very, very quiet, and that no one was there. As they approached the throne room, they began to hear loud voices, the voices of the gods, engaged in a heated argument. As they got closer, they could hear that it was an argument between Ares and Dionysius vs. the rest of the Olympian council. When they walked in, they were surprised to see a multitude of the minor gods present, as well as Hestia, and Hades, who was never allowed on Olympus, save for the winter solstice. The argument ended with Ares yelling, "I don't care if it is for the good of the universe, I still don't want to!" and Dionysius standing with him, agreeing. To which Zeus replied, "I am still king here, and I say you will! Now sit down and shut up!" Ares sat down, albeit with a look of rage on his face, and Dionysius flopped down into his throne looking depressed while the rest of the gods greeted the heroes with looks of wariness and bittersweet smiles.

The group of heroes bowed to the Olympians and the minor gods as a whole, and Percy asked, "What, exactly, did you call us up here for? And what on earth are you arguing about?" Zeus sighed and looked at the demigods and said "Look around the room here, and tell me, what is wrong with this picture?" The demigods looked around for a few seconds before Leo spoke up, saying "You all look a lot less powerful, and you aren't exactly radiating authority either." The rest of the heroes looked shocked at Leo for saying this, and were fearfully waiting for him to be smited. However Zeus only sighed an looked at him tiredly. "Spot on, Son of Hephaestus," he said with a pained smile on his face. "The gods, after much deliberation, and even more arguing, have decided that we have reached the end of our power. After the recent war with Gaea and the Giants, our forms no longer are able to hold the power of gods."

To the demigods shocked and alarmed faces he smiled and said, "We will not be leaving you, we will still be immortal, but we must pass our power onto others, people who have proven their worthiness and already have an affinity for the kind of power they will be receiving. The minor gods are here because many of them, while still able to hold their power, have tired of being gods, or do not wish to serve under a different Olympian council." Still confused Percy said, "You still have not told us why we are here, and who are these others you're talking about?" Zeus looked at him disappointedly. "You are here because you are the people we will be passing our powers onto." He smirked at the shocked expression on their faces, and continued, "You will become the next Olympian gods."
