"Never walk away from me and leave me behind for I shall always be with you in every step through life and death." That pledge that was made many years ago came back to him when he felt like he could not take it anymore. He had fallen into his knees as the broken lullaby of pain kept on repeating. He heard that promise as if he was hearing it for the first time he swore to have felt the warm breath against his ear.
"Will you help me fall apart? Find my way back through the hurricane? Can you pick me up and hold me in your arms?" he whispered to thin air feeling the presence of his beloved looming around him. Tears spilt down his cheeks, his mind wandering back to the first time he had heard those words…
"Hephaistion wait" shouted Alexander after his friend who was walking away as Aristotle's class was over. Hephaistion turned around facing the crown prince "What is it Xander?" the blond stood in front of his best friend and asked "Do you trust me?"
"That's an absurd question of course I do" the young brunette smiled at his friend
"Great, that means you're coming with me." Alexander said grinning widely before taking hold of his friends hand and dragging him along "Where are we going Xander?" Hephaistion asked as he fell into step with his excited friend "You will see." That was the only answer he was getting out of Alexander and he knew it.
After walking for a long time and climbing a hill they seemed to finally reach their destination. Hephaistion looked ahead and gasped at the breath taking view. The water of the Mediterranean sparkled with a soft rose gleam as the sun was setting down "This place is incredible." He said still in owe "I know that's why I brought you here, you see one day I shall cross through the sea and through many lands to try and discover this vast world I want to match the glory of Hercules" Alexander's eyes shined with mirth as he spoke of his dreams "Will you be there with me?" the prince turned his shinning gaze to his best friends making his heart skip a beat. Hephaistion pulled the blond into a tight embrace and whispered against his ear "Never walk away from me and leave me behind for I shall always be with you in every step through life and death" Alexander tightened his grip on his best friend smiling "This is my promise for a lifetime."…
He missed Hephaistion dearly and looking back at himself he knew that his heart was still open for that promise of a lifetime.
