Background:
When she was in her sophomore year at a high school in Manhattan, her first cousin, Lindsay Messer who worked at the lab managed to get her a week of work experience in the lab that she worked in. During this week, the lab's boss, Mac Taylor was on suspension as his prints were found at a murder scene, incriminating him. As Anna observed the behaviour of a certain labtech, she grew suspicious of him and how much attention he was paying to the case. On gut instinct, with Lindsay's permission Anna collected the labtech's prints and ran them through the system, and to everyone's surprise they came back to belong to Mac Taylor. As the rest of the team looked on, with Don in the room with her, Anna interrogated the suspect, who eventually confessed to murdering the homeless drug dealer in an attempt to frame Mac for a reason he would not confess. Mac immediately saw Anna's potential as a detective and CSI, and partly out of gratitude, on behalf of the city he granted her a scholarship to the New York academy of Crime Scene Investigation, and esteemed college renowned for producing excellent CSIs who work all around America. Anna finished her sophomore year before leaving school and starting at the college.
Within two years, Anna completed the four year course being the top of all her classes. Anna graduated and was deemed a crime solving prodigy, someone who had a natural affinity for solving crimes. Anna was able to read crime scenes and determine what happened, and well analyse evidence needed for a case to be broken. At 18, Anna started working for Mac in the crime lab, and was soon hailed, by Mac, the lab 'God-Complex' as he firmly believed that the lab wouldn't work without her being there. Because of the way Anna had saved his skin when she was only 15, Mac was extremely close to Anna, and the two got on like a house on fire. Despite being young, Anna was very popular in the lab, getting on well with all members of the team and as she got older, her and Mac had a tentative relationship, hidden from the rest of the team as they were quite different in ages. While she was in college, Anna did a background course, qualifying her as a detective. She also went out on cases with Mac's team while she was in college, giving her a one-up on the rest of her class, even though she left them all behind as she excelled.
While she was working in the lab, Anna was studying Criminal Profiling via distance education at NYU, a secret she kept from all of her team except Mac, as she feared they would think she was planning on leaving them. Because of her skill at crime scene and evidence analysis, Anna had always been on the radar of the FBI, but frequently declined as she was content working in New York and loved her team, which she closely regarded as her family.
