Mika was in the bathroom, standing in front of the mirror. And the first thing he noticed was red. The color of blood. His very own eyes. He did not saw his eyes ever since he became a full vampire. Yes, he did expect that they would be red. After all, Yuu did mention that his eyes had changed color after he drank his friend's blood. He was perfectly aware that they were no longer blue. He knew that by drinking human blood, Yuu's blood, he lost his last string of humanity. But now that he could see his reflection, his red eyes, a deep feeling of disgust overwhelmed him. A monster. That was what he was. He was nothing more than a monster.
Meanwhile, Yuu was in front of the bathroom, starting to get worried. Mika has been there for nearly one hour. He knocked on the door. "Mika? Are you alright in there?" No answer. Yuu was starting to get really worried. He could help but worry that Mika might be sick. What if he passed out in there? Yuu knocked again, his heart beating really fast with anxiety. "I'm fine." came a muffled voice from inside. It was enough to confirm that Mika did not pass out or anything of the sort, but not enough to calm Yuu's worries. Despite Mika affirming that he was fine, Yuu's protective instincts toward Mika were telling him that the blonde was not fine. Sure enough, he heard muffled sobs coming from the bathroom. Mika was crying. Listening to what his instincts told him, Yuu opened the door and walked in.
Mika was standing in front of the mirror. When he heard someone opening the door, he turned back to meet face-to-face with Yuu. Mika's cheeks were wet with tears, he was shaking, and Yuu could still hear the slight sobs of earlier. "...Yuu-chan..." Mika cried, his voice choked with the tears that threatened fall from his eyes. He looked as he was going to cry again. Sensing that, Yuu took Mika in his arms. "What's wrong?"
"...My eyes..."
"Huh? What's wrong with them?"
"They're Red... Just like those of the vampires... They're monster eyes... I'm a monster..." Mika said, crying like a little child.
Yuu began to pet Mika's back, comforting him. "You're not a monster Mika. You're my best friend, my family. Who care if you're a vampire. You will never be a monster. And no matter what everyone might say, nothing can make me change my mind." Mika raised his eyes to look at Yuu. And a tiny smile was brought to his face. "...Yuu-chan really had changed in the past four years... To think that you were always saying that you kill all the vampires... And now you protect one of them." For Mika, it was heartwarming to think that Yuu would never hate him. All these years, he lived in the fear that Yuu would hate him because he was a vampire, that he kept holding back his thirst for human blood, thinking that Yuu would resent him if he did. And he was wrong. Despite Yuu's deep hatred for the vampires, he could never hate Mika. After a short instant, Mika returned Yuu's embrace, his head resting against his shoulder.
"You're wrong. I'm not protecting a vampire. I protect my family. Because when I look at you, it's not a vampire that I see. I see my childhood friend. The self-sacrificing idiot who always made everyone pass before him. For me, you're still the same Mika as you were before. You will always be my Mika." Yuu's words were like a bandage for Mika's heart wounds. And, maybe, being a vampire did not change who he was. And, as long as Yuu did not see a monster in him, then he was fine. Maybe he could accept his red eyes.
