State of Mind
Sam glanced sideways as they sat at the diner's bar. Dean stabbed his breakfast sausage viciously, threatening to split the worn porcelain plate. The younger Winchester stealthily reached for the local newspaper beside him, knowing that when Dean was in this state, Sam needed to give his big brother his space.
Sam's eyebrows raised as he read the lead story. "Could be a case here, Dean," Sam said before he could stop himself. He moaned inwardly, eyes clenched, ready for Dean's verbal retaliation. He only heard the squeaking of the spinning bar stool and Dean's footsteps out the door.
