This is a one shot of Percy's thoughts in the Giant War.
I do not own PJO or HOO.
Percy's POV
Why do we fight? What did the gods ever do for us? All we do is save their lives and in return, we die.
So why do we fight? Is it to make our parents proud? Is it so we can receive awards and laurels?
Is it so we can be made immortals? Is it so we can achieve Elysium?
Is it so we can be praised, as great heroes? Or is it because of our friends, our family.
Because without them, what do we have? The world is a desolate place without them.
A world not worth living. That is why I fight. That is why I sacrifice myself and help the gods.
Not to make Poseidon proud. Not to achieve Elysium. I fight for my family
I will not leave my friends and family to fight in this messed up world by themselves.
Not before I cleanse it.
I will not allow them to be subject to all of the hurt, betrayal and sadness of this world. I can't, I won't.
I promise to protect my family to my very last breath. I swear on the River Styx.
Even if I had to travel through Tartarus, I did it to protect my family.
Because if I didn't, someone else would have.
And it is far better for me to suffer, then for them to suffer.
That is why I didn't abandon the Great Prophesy and dump it on Nico, like Thalia did to me.
Because he is my friend, my family.
That is why I was willing to attack Kronos.
That is what gave me the strength to defeat him.
It was because Annabeth was in danger.
That is how I defeated the Minotaur, when I was twelve.
It was because Grover was in danger.
The only reason I was able to accomplish all of the amazing feats I did, was because of my family.
They gave me the determination to never give up.
The only reason I was able to make it to Camp Jupiter, when I lost my memory, was because of my family.
I belong to two families. The Greeks sheltered me and trained me.
They helped me recognize my potential. They treated me like a somebody, not a nobody.
The Romans took me in, when I had amnesia. They didn't care about my lineage.
They cared about me. My family gave me strength. They gave me something to fight for.
They gave me a home. They helped me through the tough times. They kept my moral up.
Even when all hope seemed lost, they were there for me.
They defended me, I defended them.
And if Gaea and her stupid giants think that they could take my family away from me, they were wrong.
Because even if I do die, then I will die knowing I defended my family to the last breath.
