In and out the dusty bluebells
Before all that they were just young boys under the watchful eyes of their mothers as they played. One had brothers that turned against him and fought him mercilessly. The other was raised alone for most of his childhood and had trouble understanding how to interact with others. Meeting whilst captive was not the best start for a friendship but they could forget all that in the meadows.
Just two boys playing in and out the dusty bluebells.
Under Rome's eyes they were "Civilised" though their hearts remained wild. Captives, yet free under the sun and moon, playing for days upon end. In meadows green beside streams of blue and mountains great. Games of throw, catch and chase. Sleeping below the stars under the moon's gentle eyes. When independence was merely a word and all fighting was done in jest.
"I am the master!" When Rome disappeared they were separated. No longer did the two little boys play in and out the dusty bluebells.
Constant fighting, Clashes of swords , Castles springing up with the boy's growth. Kings of renown and Queens of great splendour. Riches beyond imagining and more land than the eye could see. Yet, they lusted for something more. Lured away by the though of power they set to work fighting each other.
No more was left of the little boys who played in and out the dusty bluebells.
The skies greyed and castles multiplied. Fighting was their life and the norm for if one should falter the other would cut them down without mercy. Indeed they didn't even know the meaning of the word. Wars not only around the world but around the clock- it became nothing more than routine. If one sided with someone the other would immediately oppose them. Armies later and exhausted resources. when only in the rare times of peace did they ever dream of once more of a green meadow under the sun, playing in and out the dusty bluebells.
When they could abandon all notions of enemies and instead capture the idea of friendship – When they could be France and England friends.
/ Inspired by a children's game titled in and out the dusty bluebells. It's played in the UK but I don't know if it's played elsewhere.
Thanks for reading!
