Atem sighed as he walked back to the palace through the rain. His father didn't know he was out here. The pharaoh didn't approve of his son's insistence to visit the city, saying that one day he would be mobbed. Atem had to get back before someone noticed he was gone.

A second later, he was out like a light, pain racing though his head, and a sharper one in his neck.

"What are you doing? That's the Crown Prince!" someone, female by the sound of it, cried out. The sounds of a struggle followed. Then someone knelt beside him.

"Man, I didn't manage to stop him in time" the same voice as before whispered. "You're luck that I was the one who found you. Those that I convert are immune to sunlight, like me." Atem tasted blood and, thinking it was his own, swallowed it. He sat up, suddenly, coughing. "That'll do the trick. Let's get you back to the palace."

After that, it became clear that something was different about Atem. He never aged, and had a strange taste for blood. Finally, after 10 years of him being Pharaoh, someone figured out what he was.

"Pharaoh, I'm sorry, but it's true. You're a vampire. Have been ever since that night we found you out said the gates." The advisor, and his best friend, confirmed. Atem fled the country, and history. He had no heir, or family and avoided humanity altogether.

That would all change 5000 years later.

Chapter 1: Mysterious change

Yugi Mutou stared out at the rain. It was supposed to be a nice summer's day, but the rain had ruined it all. He couldn't go anywhere and the business at his grandpa's shop had been bad all day.

"I'm going to go ahead and close shop early today," his grandfather, Solomon Mutou, called.

"Wait, I think I see someone coming!" Yugi cried. The someone in question stumbled. "I think he's hurt!"

Yugi ran outside to help the stranger inside. He looked exactly like Yugi himself, but about a foot taller and maybe a year or two older. Supporting him on one side, Yugi led him inside.

"Grandpa, I think he might need a doctor," Yugi said.

"No, I'll be fine," the stranger said in a baritone voice.

"What's your name?" Yugi asked.

"Atem," the stranger replied.
