It was a bright and sunny day in Downton. Everyone in the house was cheerful and getting on with their day to day business.

" Oh Mr Carson! A lady is coming today to interview for the nanny job. It's such a shame we can't find one that stays." Said Mrs Hughes.

"Oh yes of course. What time will she be arriving?"

"9 o'clock she said."

"Thank you Mrs Hughes." Mr Carson left his friend to go and attend to the silverware when he heard the doorbell ringing. It couldn't be the new nanny? She was not supposed to arrive till 9 o'clock and it was only quarter to. Mr Carson moved as quickly as he could up the stairs and opened the front door. On the doorstep he found a young girl, maybe sixteen smiling up at him.

"Hello! I'm Maggie Barrow I'm here to interview for the nanny position." She spoke very fast and very happily. Mr Carson did not like the look of her.

"There must have been a mistake. I…you're too young…how old are you?"

"Sixteen sir. But I'm a good worker and have good references! Lady Crawley knew my age when she sent for me."

At this moment Lady Crawley strode through the hall and noticed Maggie. She greeted her like an old friend.

"Ah Margaret! You're here early we didn't expect you for another fifteen minutes."

"Well I thought I'd be better early than late milady."

"Well I don't like either." Muttered Carson.

Maggie was then escorted through the house to the library where she gave a superb interview. She made Cora laugh, they exchanged stories and so she was awarded the job. Carson was called back to the room and asked to take Maggie down to the servants hall to meet everyone.

Maggie tried to make conversation with Mr Carson as they walked but he ignored her as much as he could. When they reached the servants hall everyone was there and stood up quickly at the arrival of Carson.

"This is Margaret. She is the new nanny here and I hope you will make her feel welcome."

"Oh, you can all call me Mag-" She was cut off by Thomas quickly turning round and exclaiming, "Maggie!"

Maggie turned and saw her older brother staring at her in shock.
