Disclaimer: I do not own Ghost Hunt or any of the characters. I profit in no way from writing this.

Story: Just my attempt at some Naru/John slash because I think they'd make a really delicious pairing. Set just after the final episode of the anime, when Naru is in hospital and everyone is visiting.

John Brown watched as his friends all trooped out of the hospital room, all needing snacks or restroom breaks. The smile was still on his face from the way Mai and Masako had been fighting over what tea bags to use all the way out of the room. There was nowhere he'd rather be.

He heard Naru sigh quietly and turned to him. He looked even paler than usual, all the energy he had used had still drained him, and John was reminded of the horror they'd all felt when Naru had collapsed and Lin had begun pounding at his chest, desperately trying to resuscitate him.

"We were all really worried about you, Kazuya. You gave us quite a scare."

Naru's mouth twitched, somewhere between annoyance and amusement that John couldn't quite decipher. "I know," he said, nodding slightly so that his dark hair fell into his face even further. "I already had a lecture from Lin…and Mai."

The blonde nodded, an agreement to stop hounding Naru.

"Well, at any rate," Naru continued smoothly, putting his book down onto his lap. "At least the case is solved."

John bobbed his head again, unable to disguise his relief that it was over as he scraped back a chair to sit down by the side of the hospital bed.

"Monk tells me that you were also quite impressive against the spirits. You protected the Yoshima family well," Naru observed with as much interest as John had ever heard him possess about anything. He flushed to be praised so, not expecting it at all.

"It was nothing compared to what you did, Kazuya," he replied, his cheeks warm.

"I like it when you do that," Naru said, and John had to squint to check he'd really seen things right…Naru was smiling.

"D-Do what?"

"Call me by my name," Naru said his voice lowering. "It sounds nice when you say it." It was at that point that he reached over, and took John's hand, which had been resting on the bed just by him.

"K-Kazuya," John gulped, trying to get air as fire sparked up from the touch through his body, burning his face up with heat.

"I know that this goes against your religion, John," Naru said simply. "But I can't deny the way I feel any more."

John staggered back, the chair falling over backwards. How could it be possible that Naru had feelings for him? Naru watched him, his face still calm, but his eyes widening. He clearly hadn't expected John to react this way.

"No," John shook his head firmly. "We can't, Kazuya, you know it isn't right!"

"Who's to say it isn't right?" Naru contradicted, unriled by John's outburst.

John swallowed. His heart was pounding uncomfortably and he couldn't think what to say. He was only just beginning to figure out his own feelings for Naru, it was too soon to learn that Naru returned them, and wanted something to happen.

His head jerked guiltily towards a sound at the door – everyone had returned, chattering animatedly.

"Hey, Naru, I brought you some magazines," Monk said jovially. His smile faded to see the shock ingrained into John's face. "Is everything alright?"

"I'm going to head home, I'll see you later," John murmured, his last words barely audible as he stumbled towards the door, his escape.

Kazuya.

'I feel the same way too, I wanted to tell you,' John thought, his eyes filling to the brim with tears as he drifted down the corridor in a haze. 'But what can I do? It's a sin…'

Hope you liked this, I plan to continue! Also, if any Ghost Hunt fans can tell me – will there be a second series of the anime? Really hope there will!
