Sorry this is a rewrite of I promise, I took the last one down and I've changed it because it resembled a another story that I didn't write too much. Disclaimer: I don't own anything.
To Noah it was a day like any other. The sun was shining, there was hardly a cloud in the sky and there was a gentle breeze occasionally. Unfortunately Noah could almost sense that this day wasn't going to be quite as perfect as it looked, and when he entered his friend Dawn's room he saw why.
Dawn was on the ground, blood streaming out two gaping slashes in her wrists like two red fountains. A bloodied knife lay next to her, the darkening blood staining the handle till it was like the rest of knife. Noah stood there shell shocked before snapping himself out of it and rushing over to Dawn in a sprint that would make Eva proud. He crouched down beside her and looked into her light blue eyes. He took two trembling fingers and placed them on her neck, trying to find a pulse. To his amazement, there was one, it was faint but still there. He knew that there was no way she could survive this but nevertheless he found himself ringing 911. He could hope after all.
"911 what service do you require?" The operator on the other side of the phone said in monotone.
"Pa..Paramedics." Noah replied in a somewhat shaky voice.
"Faxing you over."
Noah gave the address and details of what happened over to the ambulance and hung up. He turned to the moonchild in his arms and studied her pale skin with her once beautiful blue eyes.
"Dawn... Why would you do this to yourself" He found himself asking her, he wasn't expecting a reply but when Dawn stirred in his arms and spoke he was so startled that he nearly dropped her.
"I guess I was just tired of always being the odd one out." She replied in a whisper her voice losing its strength. "I was always the freak, the weirdo, the creepy girl and I was sick of it. No one love me, no one but you even liked me."
Noah was listening in shock that a girl he thought was so strong was actually so broken inside. "Dawn," he began, "To me you weren't any of those things, you were my best friend, my other half. I liked you, hell screw that, I loved you Dawn." He finished in a broken voice as tears ran down his face.
Dawn couldn't hold back her tears anymore as they streamed down. She stared at her best friend. They were complete opposites, yin and yang, light and dark, yet they were so alike as well. She couldn't believe he loved her.
"Ho..how long?" She croaked out.
"Ever since the end of season four."
"That long?"
"Yes, and each day I was so happy I could just merely spend time with you, but now I'm going to be stuck by myself. Why are you leaving me Dawn, why can't you stay?" Noah, completely broke down and cried into her shoulder, letting out all the feelings he was keeping bottled up.
"I'm so sorry Noah, so sorry but I can't. Nobody lasts forever, myself included. But things like our friendship, they can. Remember our friendship when I'm gone. Remember what we had. It'll hurt so painfully, eventually the pain will dull and you'll forget me but please remember the friendship we shared. Promise me that Noah, promise me." Dawn whispered as she felt her time coming to an end.
"I promise." Noah said brokenly. Noah watched as Dawn gave him one last tearful smile before going limp in his arms. Sobs racked his body painfully as the girl he loved passed on to the afterlife.
"I'll never forget you Dawn." He cried as he clung to her cooling body. Even when the paramedics burst in, he didn't let go. He just sat there mourning the dead moonchild. Before the paramedics took her away, he whispered one last promise to her.
"I promise that our friendship will never be forgotten." With that promise ringing in his ears, he stood and walked away from the dead, into the living.
