This is a new max ride oneshot- based on the second book. This takes place during thanksgiving, when they talk about thankful things. Max realizes that Fang is thankful for her, even if he can't say it.
Have a happy turkey day all—please review- is it any good?
Max's POV
Thankful
Something about Fang was different. He seemed to be hiding something. This was new, normally, I knew exactly what Fang was thinking. It wasn't what Angel could do, I just knew. We were always so close, best friends.
I guess the high school changed things. People always say that puberty changes things, but, with us it brought us apart. I really want to punch who ever came up with that pithy phrase. Even if it is true.
The food smelled great. After so many years on the run, a meal where we could stuff ourselves was about the best thing we could imagine.
Even Anne's inadequate cooking skills didn't matter, it was warm, there was a lot of it, that was about all that mattered.
But- of course- Anne had to ruin things and make us say what we were thankful for. Come on. I have to say that is pretty lame. I feel like we're on some bad sitcom or something.
The others had some ideas, most of them about things that mattered. Nudge, of course, had some funny ones, I mean, I love gummy worms but I am not thankful for them.
But, then it was Fang's turn. He looked like this was the last thing he wanted to be doing. I didn't blame him. Then, he said what he was thankful for, "Family, Food, Place to stay."
I used my newly acquired knowledge of vocabulary words to define Fang: Laconic. He could say something so important and put it in five words. Only he could do that.
Then, I saw Fang's eye on mine. They seemed to burn into me, like he was trying to tell me something. If he could send me a mental message, he would have then.
I wasn't quite sure what Fang was thinking, but I was pretty sure.
I thought that he was saying that he was thankful for me.
AN: I know this is short, but I always wondered what would happen if Max was a bit more intuitive about what Fang had been saying. She seemed a bit dense. Please review and have a happy thanksgiving.
