Fire. There's fire all around him. Past the fire, he can make out three familiar faces. He screams out to them. Nothing comes out.
Instead, his own voice is calm, amused. His eyes flicker to Castiel. "Look at what you've become, Castiel. It's a shame. You were quite the soldier in my universe." His lips turn into a slight smile. Dean is still trying to call out to them, to warn them. They don't listen.
Castiel takes a step closer, instead. Idiot, both Dean and Michael think at the same time. "Let him go."
He glares at him through the ring of fire. "He's screaming right now, you know that? He's trying so, so very hard to break free," he muses.
Sam speaks up this time. "Dean, I know you're in there. Everything's going to be fine."
"I am much stronger than my brother, Sam. Dean can't overcome me like you did with Lucifer. And believe me, he's doing his best."
"He doesn't need to." Jack steps forwards now, and he pulls out something familiar from behind him. A golden orb with enochian symbols etched into it.
Sam begins to chant a short exorcism, and for the first time in six months, Dean has hope.
It doesn't last long. The fire quickly fades around him. Then, his fist is colliding with Sam's face, the snap of his bones interrupting him. "An exorcism? Really?" He hears himself ask.
Castiel picks up where Sam left off. And Dean begins to feel it in his bones; Michael is being slowly pulled away from his body. But he still puts up a fight.
Dean crouches on the ground and holds his head in both hands. It's painful, but it's also the best feeling in the world, to be able to finally move his own body. His blood begins to burn as Michael does everything he can to stay, does everything in his power to bury himself in Dean's vessel.
Dean screams. He's not sure how long, or how loud, or if they can even hear him, but he screams. Light bursts from his mouth, up and out of the room. He collapses on the floor from exhaustion.
They did it. They finally did it.
