Axel paced fiercely across the floor, dark boots slapping violently against the black marble. The sound reverberated against the tight walls. His thoughts churned madly; bright eyes flashed from this space to that. Sora would be here soon. The boy, having at least some grasp on the situation, had agreed to meet him — alone. What a fool, Axel thought, letting a grim smile turn his mouth. I'll roast him to cinders.

His fingers clenched and unclenched sporadically as his thoughts returned to why he was meeting the "keyblade master." All he craved was for rage to completely consume him, let its vicious flames devour him from the hole in his chest to the tips of his hair.

But Reason was a mocking creature, and chose these moments to torment him. He slowed his pace as its acidic thoughts leaked past his furious façade. He listened; pondered. The anger dripped from his face. Reason was turning his absolute facts upside down, and confusion slid into his eyes.

But who is really to blame — the boy who took my best friend's life, or the friend himself for allowing it to happen?

He didn't have long to muse — quiet footsteps shattered the silence of the room. Axel whirled around; Sora stood not ten feet away. The fiery monster consumed him again, and he stalked towards the boy, flames bursting to life in his palm. "You—!" Fury strangled his throat.

Sora made no move to defend himself as Axel seized his collar and wrenched him off the ground. He breathed in vehemently, preparing to scream his final sentiment at the boy, but the breath caught in his throat and he choked on it. Sora's face was so familiar… they could have been brothers. No, they're closer than that — they're the same person. The fire in his other hand flickered out.

He studied Sora's eyes — they were a shade darker than his friend's, but they were honest and sincere. And he could see the faint glimmer of Roxas peering out at him.

Slowly, he lowered his arm, slackening his grip as Sora's feet touched the floor. He laid a tentative hand on the boy's shoulder. "You…you take care of him."

Sora gave him a quiet, almost sad smile. "I will."

(This was written at the time I first uploaded the fic (to DA), mind you.)

I've been wondering about this. I mean, I haven't reached a point in the game where Axel and Sora have actually had a confrontation (except for the part where Sora was like "dude who are you" and axel's like "hahaha i am amazing yay." but that was...anyway.), so I wouldn't know how he actually feels, but. Would Axel have been angry with Sora or Roxas? Seeing as he had such a close friendship with Roxas (i'm assuming he left the organization for him), I'd think he'd be angry with Sora. But...what if he stopped to think?

If one of your friends was killed by his or her own choice, by a person who was not to blame -- who would you be mad at?
