Kaoru stared him down, her sleeves rolled up, ready for battle. She took a deep breath and moved a step closer, the heat rolling off of him pushing her back. Another deep breath and she took her arms for the battle and approached again.
Kaoru gritted her teeth, "Okay," she said, her voice firm, but wavy around the edges, "I don't like you and you don't like me. But that shouldn't matter."
He didn't answer.
"Because there are some things that we have to work together for."
Still no answer.
"Listen, I don't like it either, but it can't be helped."
He stared her down.
"Don't look at me like that! You're part of my household! I can have you removed any time I want for no reason what-so-ever!" She shouted, "Especially with the way you treat me!"
He sputtered a little and Kaoru moved closer, still wary.
"Listen, if we don't do this, we'll all go hungry. I have to do this. You can't intimidate me. No, you won't intimidate me. I will win. I will. I will."
Now he was laughing at her.
Ooh, this was it. With a mighty battle cry Kaoru rushed at him, her weapon raised high in the air. He didn't flinch as she rushed him, just as she expected, the arrogant bastard!
"I'll beat you yet!" Kaoru screamed at the top of her lungs. He just laughed.

Kenshin awoke to the strangest racket. Still half asleep he made his way through the dojo, half expecting to find a war going on.
For a moment the unearthly silence had him convinced that he had just imagined it all. Then Kaoru's high pitched battle cry jolted him fully awake. Kenshin sprinted at full speed toward the sound, wondering what type of foul nemesis was attacking he precious home yet again.
He flung open the door from behind which the sounds of a fierce battle could be heard. He stopped in his tracks. "Oro?"
Kaoru was there, a cooking fork raised high in her hands, attacking the stove and the food that sat on top with a single-minded determination.
"You stupid stove! I'll get you to do what I want yet!" Kaoru shouted, still attacking the stove which had mocked her by burning her food one to many times.
