The Last Remnant
Riku stared at the ceiling of his room for the first time in a long time. His parents had berated him about running away, but altogether they'd just hugged him and cried for hours on end. He had finally changed into his old clothes after about a year.
"Riku..." A voice called out to him through the night.
"Hmm?" It reminded him of something long ago. Like a faint hint of nostalgia.
"Riku, can you hear me?" The voice belonged to a light that had entered through the window.
"What... are you?" The silver haired boy answered the light with a question.
"Can you remember me?" The boy just looked at what he guessed was a girl for a long time. He tried to think of where he might of heard this voice before.
"I don't think I know you," His face was as still as stone. The light meanwhile had flew in front of him. It materialized into a ethereal form of a raven haired girl about the height of his friend Kairi.
She wore an Organization's coat with the hood down.
"It's me... Xion," She sat down on the bed next to Riku, "I just thought that maybe you'd remember me," Riku looked at her for a few minutes more until a memory flew back into him.
"Xi...on..." He rolled it over in his mind. The only thing that came to mind was a single memory of her smiling on the beach near the Papou Fruit Tree.
"Do you remember me Riku?" She sat with her hands on her legs. He sat up next to her.
"I think I do," Another memory came back of him breaking her Keyblade, "You were part of The Organization, right?" She frowned slightly.
"I was, but I was what someone would call a puppet," More memories flooded back into his head including a slight tinge of sadness. He felt pain in his heart by merely seeing her.
"Xion... how di-" Xion raised on hand and pressed a finger against his lips.
"I am merely using the last strength I have to talk to you," A small tear rolled down her face as her feet began to fade, "I just wanted to see you one last time."
"But you... can't," His face showed a little surprise. All she did was lean over and kiss him as her body slowly began to shatter.
"I have to Riku," More tears slowly hit the boys sheets, "This is goodbye. I'm glad I met you..." Xion fully faded away from the room leaving Riku grasping the air. His fists clenched and his eyes closed while he tried to think over the events that lasted only a few brief moments.
'There has to be a way," Riku thought to himself as sleep took over his body.
