The plane crashes, she dies. Mark holds her hand and tells her just how much he truly does love her while she dies. Lexie dies, and Mark cannot save. He wants to more than anything. Desperately attempting to do anything to keep his Little Grey alive he tries in vain to lift the airplane, refusing to let go. She could not die, not like this, not now, not before he got to tell her how much he loves her. "Meant to be," She murmurs with a smile on her face as her eyes close and she dies, leaving him alone for the rest of his life.
A few hours later Mark almost dies. Laughing at the irony of his near death experience to himself. Amazing Lexie Grey had died after never doing almost anything wrong, choosing to love people, and making him a better man, while he screws people over time after time, and once again narrowly escapes death. The only thing keeping him holding on is the memory of his little girl, Sofia, she should not have to grow up without her dad. He trusts deep down that if something happened to him that in the arms of her two mothers she would grow up just fine, reminded of how Daddy loved her and how Daddy died of a broken heart. Closing his eyes he plans to try to sleep the rest of the night away, yes they saved him for now but who knew what would happen next. Mark just wanted to sleep though and pretend all of this was just a dream and he had not lost Lexie yet.
All of a sudden Mark's eyes open, it's not dark out anymore, he's not freezing, and he can breathe easily. After a few seconds he realizes exactly where he is, on the airplane, in Idaho, safe. His eyes don't check to see if Arizona, Meredith, Cristina, or even Derek, he searched for Lexie. Pushing people out of the way he ran up to her. Touching her shoulder softly she turned into him and her chocolate brown eyes stare into his cool blue ones, "I love you too." Mark says and watches as her face lights up both in surprise and shock, "God I love you so much and I think about you every second of everyday. I love you." He says moving in and gently kissing her. After a mere moment she leans into it kissing him back as well.
"Say it again," Lexie says with a coy smile on her face.
