Hey. So this is a sad story I wrote after finding a picture on DeviantART by Burdge-bug. It showed Teddy looking down at a picture of his parents and then…well this story popped up. And I know Burdge-bug may not read this (ever) but I dedicate this to you. Enjoy.
"Harry?"
Harry looked up from his book. There stood eight year old Teddy Lupin with his bright blue hair and small tiny hands clutching a teddy bear. He looked uncertain and oddly nervous. Harry smiled at him and patted the empty spot on the couch next to him. Teddy sat down and brought out a small rectangle from his pocket. He then unfolded it and a picture appeared. Harry glanced down at it and saw Remus and Tonks laughing their heads off while holding Teddy who also roared with laughter. His bright green hair was spiked up and his round chubby face glowed.
"Teddy…" Harry started sadly though was interrupted.
"I know my parents are gone Harry." He whispered while staring at the picture.
"I know you know," Sighed Harry.
"So these are my parents correct?" Said Teddy looking up at him.
"Yes Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin." Harry replied sadly.
"Then where are they?" Demanded Teddy furious, "Why aren't they here?"
"Teddy…" Harry hesitated; he looked down at Teddy's devastated but angry face. He had to tell him, he couldn't lie. It was like ripping off a bandage except he knew the pain would stay and not disappear. "They're dead."
"Wha-what?" Teddy stuttered his anger was fading and being replaced with confusion. Harry couldn't bear to tell him they were killed. He wished he hadn't been so careless, leaving the photo were Ted could find it. What was he thinking? Teddy was the most curious boy he knew; obviously he'd find it while exploring their attic. He'd wanted to wait till he was older, and Ginny had agreed.
"How?" Teddy asked clutching at Harry's shirt.
"You remember that story I once told you? About the Battle of Hogwarts?" Harry asked gently. Teddy nodded. Harry continued, "Remember how I told you that the boy who lived was the savior of Hogwarts and how he defeated the Dark Lord." Teddy nodded once more.
"But how he had lost some of the people he loved during the battle."
"Yeah but what does that have to do with my parents?" Teddy asked chocking on the last word.
"The story was true honey." Ginny said walking into the room with tears in her eyes. She sat down on the other side of Teddy and spoke once more, "The boy who lived was Harry and the two of the people he had lost was Lupin and Tonks."
No doubt she was thinking of Fred Weasley. Harry longed to hold her and stroke her hair and tell her everything would be alright. But with Teddy looking so destroyed he knew he had to comfort him instead. Teddy looked shocked and tears started to pour down his face. Harry pulled him into a hug and Teddy sobbed for the parents he never knew.
"Teddy shh it'll be alright you know what Lupin told me?" Harry said.
"What?" Teddy sniffled looking up at Harry's face.
"He told me you were a great wizard in the making. Do you want to know why?" Said Harry.
"Why?"
"Because you're his son. Lupin was a great strong man. He was one of the greatest wizards I've ever known. And you'll be just like him Teddy I promise you will."
Teddy managed a smile and said, "Pinky swear?"
"Pinky swear." Harry said grinning back, and they shook pinkies.
