The Train Ride
15th December, 20:30, Seattle -Omaha train
Callie shoved her bag under her seat and looked up and down the aisle again
"Is this seat taken?" She looked up. It was Alex. She looked up and down the aisle once more.
"No." She sighed.
"He probably just got held up in traffic," Izzie, sat next to Cristina, leaned across.
A phone rang, it took a while for Callie to realise it was hers. She rooted around in her bag and pressed 'answer'.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Callie?" It was George!
Izzie looked at her and mouthed 'Who is it?'; 'George', she mouthed back. It confused Callie that as she said this Izzie paled and hastily began reading her magazine.
"Callie? Look, I'm not going to be able to make it to the Omaha conference-thingy."
"I kind of figured that."
"Oh. Who are you sat with?"
The train began to move so suddenly that Callie nearly dropped her phone.
"Alex Karev." She said, cell phone back in hand.
"Right, well I'll see you la-"
"That wasn't why you phoned, George. What is it?"
Alex Karev, she realised, was watching her as if he could sense something...exciting was about to happen.
"Hello? George?" he had been silent for several moments now.
"I-I mean we-I want to be," he took a deep breath, "I'm in love with Izzie, I- I can't be with you anymore." This time Callie really did drop the phone. She sat there for a while, not moving, reacting or thinking. Well, ok, she was thinking.
How could he?
