Changing of the Seasons
Albus wasn't entirely sure if he liked the change he saw in his best mate. For he had always thought of Scorpius in terms of winter: his hair white like snow, his eyes sharp and pale like the ice, and his demeanor cold and chilly like the wind.
That was his best mate. His best mate was winter.
Not the one he was looking at now.
The one that stood in front of him was spring. The one who was now melting under his uncle's touch, into the older man's body –ice and snow becoming water so close to the fire. The one who was simply coming alive under his uncle's careful touches, soft words, gentle nudges, and loving gestures.
Though he hated to sit here and watch it happen, Albus couldn't deny the happiness he saw: the bright, blue eyes of his mate shining – more like a robin's egg these days, the smile that had taken up permanent residence, the softness that pervaded everything regarding Scorpius: his voice, his speech, his mannerisms, his body.
He just wasn't sure if he liked it.
In fact, he knew he didn't like it. Because his best mate was no longer the best mate he had lived with for seven years at Hogwarts.
And what hurt the most was that everyone else, including Scorpius' family, raved about the changes. They simply could not keep their mouth shut about everything they liked about this new Scorpius. This warmer, softer, gentler Scorpius. That his relationship with his uncle, which first met with resistance, had become the talk of the family. He hated to sit at meal after meal and listen to how his uncle brought the best out in his best mate, while they also raved about how Scorpius had brought his uncle back to life after his messy divorce.
And Albus hated it; with more passion than he thought was possible.
Albus just didn't understand what made this Scorpius so desirable. The one they know wanted around, invited to every occasion, the one they adored was not his Scorpius. His Scorpius was aloof and arrogant. His Scorpius didn't like people but he did like him. His Scorpius never did anything unless Albus bribed him.
But the kicker. The one thing that drove straight into his heart was that Albus' Scorpius loved him –not his Uncle.
Fin.
