A/N: Just a little something I had going around in my head after watching "Hellfire" again recently. I wanted to see Michael's reaction to Jackie being hit. Hope you like! :)
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
What Had He Done?
He'd hit her.
He couldn't believe it, that wasn't supposed to happen. But in the heat of the moment he'd just lashed out at her, the fact that it helped was irrelevant. He'd hurt her.
It had gone against all his instincts – against his nature – to see it happen and then watch her be whisked away on the arm of a suspected murderer.
What had he done?
Michael absently rubbed his chin with his hand as he thought over the last couple of hours and what he had witnessed.
Rob's fist slamming into Jackie's jaw replayed itself in his mind over and over again as he contemplated what he had gotten her involved in. She wouldn't even have agreed to the undercover operation if it hadn't been for him.
Now he wondered whether it was worth it.
A part of him knew that it was their duty to do everything in their power to catch the killer, that this was the only way they had a hope of catching Greg Martin. But another part, the bigger part, wanted nothing more than to storm into the station, take Rob by the throat and show him what happened when someone hurt Jackie.
Then he would make sure that Jackie was removed from any danger and that Greg Martin was never within five meters of her.
But he couldn't. And it was killing him to admit it.
Instead he could do nothing but swallow his protective instincts and do his duty.
But if anything happened to her because of this, not only would he never forgive himself, he'd show no mercy to whoever hurt her.
Because she was Jackie and he was Michael and that's just the way things were.
