Severus Snape never thought his life would be anything out of the ordinary, no different to any other wizard who had ever lived. Still, as a child, he wondered what it would be like to be one of the famous wizards that were talked about or the witches in the history books.
Severus flickered through a few memories at the forefront of his mind with all the dignity he could summon, remembering his school years to his final dying moments.
He thought that he had led a good life, some poor souls barely even got through their first years. Though it had been rough in some places, he was proud of himself for getting through, even though he had made some bad decisions, he had made good ones as well.
Now he was here, in the place you could never escape. Loneliness and isolation surrounded him in an impenetrable bubble.
But that didn't matter anymore, all he needed was his memories, he needed to remember the years he had spent alive and cherish the moments he had experienced.
He took a breath, amazed that he could still breath if he wanted. Of course it was absolutely pointless, breathing wasn't a requirement where he now stood. Even though he was most definitely dead, he felt more alive than anytime when he had actually been living, he could feel the energy in his muscles ready to respond at any moment. It was like being a child again, except the vivid feeling was much more intense now. He liked it.
He was getting distracted. He had a task to do, a task that was going to take a long time. A lifetime one might say. But it was fine, he had all the time in the world.
He closed his eyes and entered the abyss of his mind, reaching back as far as he could to grasp those first moments and he pulled them to the centre of his brain, where he began to remember more than he ever had before.
Severus smiled, seeing the joy on his parents faces, hearing them speak softly to their newborn child as they looked at each other in wonder, for they had just been given the greatest gift they could of ever hoped for.
Now was the time. Snape concentrated hard on the child, an unusual feeling encompassing him as the room spun, becoming a blurry haze as he felt himself being pulled into the very scene itself that he had been viewing from above a mere few seconds ago. His head felt funny, like a hole had been opened and the contents of his mind were leaking out.
Soon he remembered nothing, all he knew was the two faces beaming down at him from above.
