He had been strapped to a table and injected with burning Mako. He had been forced to live for five years in a small, cramped test tube. He had been beaten, ridiculed, rejected. Cloud Strife had many memories of being in pain. Though, as time went by, the pain subsided. Tifa accepted him now that she had matured, Hojo was gone. He would never have to suffer again.
Except, in his dreams, when he saw a young brunette woman waiting for him. Her soft hands squeezing his arms and shoulders in comfort, her soft voice giggling at his shy, unsure behaviour. He would stay there all night, never letting his dreams wander anywhere else. And when morning came, she always turned around and held him close against him, muttering to him that he had to be strong and that she loved him.
His heart would clench painfully as her arms encircled him. All the memories would rush into his mind, turning his blood cold. Of all the pain he had suffered in his life, this was the greatest pain of all.
The pain of knowing he could never hold her back.
