"hey Rainbowdash! want to prank somepony" Pinkie said as her balloons carried her to the cloud Dash was resting on.
"wha-huh? oh hi pinkie haha...random as ever i see" Rainbow said never quite getting used to pinkie's antics. "haha just having fun silly filly, now come on! we got pranks to pull" Rainbow shook her head smiling at her "alright alright, im coming. but who is first" they were off for their first victom.
"why not rarity" pinkie suggested "awesome! what are we gonna do" Rainbow asked "hmm...good question. how about sneezing powder" Pinkie said hopefully with a wide smile. " sneezing powder huh...i like the way you think pinkie-even if you don't make sense sometimes" Rainbow said as they went to the prank shop for supplies. "glad to hear it, rarity had a bad day so i thought a prank would cheer her up"
Rainbowdash woke up then, a tear strolling down her face as she remembered the dream. That was the first time she noticed a method to pinkies madness, and ever since she started to notice it more and more. Raibow still remembered the surprise birthday party they threw her, and always she would chastize herself for not realizing it sooner. That it was the worse thing pinkie could have experienced.
~flashback~
"alright RD, looks like things are set up. can you go get pinkie" Applejack asked. "you got it" Rainbow said enthusiastically as she left. On her way out, she thought she heard pinkie's voice ringing in her head.
"Just keep smiling, if only for me"
"If nothing else, cause then you'll see"
"The world around you is always in need"
"but give it a smile and it will be freed"
Rainbow didn't understand what the words meant, but neither did she like how they sounded. She doubled her pace worried for her friend. but when she arrived, she was met with a scene she wished was a nightmare. 'please let luna be hiding somewhere' she thought to herself in hopes it truly was just that, a nightmare. Rainbow's heart shattered as she realized all too soon it was real, as pinkie's heart was no longer beating.
The doctors said she was healthy, no way she could have died. but...Rainbow knew why, she knew pinkie was heartbroken. She knew...because pinkie didn't think she had her friends anymore.

She donned a smile and got ready for her work day, Rainbow pledged to take over for pinkie. Every day she tried making ponies smile during her ever day activities. Inside her heart still ached and seeing other ponies smile kept her going, Celestia only knew how long Rainbow herself would last with out it.
