A/N: This was originally written for a challenge. The pairing was LuxordNamine; however, this fic is completely up to interpretation. Who knows, maybe people will warm up to it.

The Invisible Girl

By Alterz

He had only visited the other castle once, and he had found the experience entirely uninspiring.

There had been white, a great deal of white. Lots of columns, walls, halls, stairs, more stairs. But it all more or less melted together into a lot of white.

There had been one spot of white which caught his interest. A small, pale girl, with light hair and a white dress, who was almost indistinguishable from the rest of the room.

In a fit of boredom, he had asked her if she played cards. Blue eyes glanced up from her notebook and regarded him for a moment, the rest of her blending seamlessly into the background. A mouth opened in the space below them, and she replied that, no, she didn't, because she didn't know any games.

So he set about teaching her gin rummy. It created a rather remarkable illusion; two-dimensional patterns spinning around the table, appearing to flip themselves when the girl's pallid hand touched them.

What was memorable, though, was the way she played. She watched the cards earnestly, absorbing the rules quickly. Whereas most of his opponents appeared bored, distracted, she seemed to be as captivated by the game as he was. She treated it like an art form. Her hands put as much effort into the game as they did into her many pictures.

He remembered nothing else about her.
