Summary: Following his death on the first Death Star, Obi-Wan Kenobi gets a chance to set things right; starts just before TPM.
Disclaimer: I own nothing of Star Wars, nor any of the characters. If I did, I would have Anakin whop off the head of the Emperor instead of becoming Darth Vader!
A/N: Alrighty then! This fanfic was actually by my younger cousin; she gave me the bones, I added the meat. It's a duo project with this, and I hope my cousin likes this!
Ch. 1: Prologue
The blank expanse of space; a black backdrop littered with stars burning brilliantly throughout the eons. It's a lonely, cold place to be, with no life. And if there is, it's quickly ended.
On board the Death Star in 0 ABY, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Knight of the long-dead Republic, was locked in battle with Darth Vader. Obi-Wan was not frightened- rather, he was resigned. Whether it was because it was his own gut or some insight from the Force, he had known for awhile that he would end up fighting his old Padawan.
He looked into the eyes of Vader's black, skeletal mask, behind which he knew was the scarred, burnt face of his fallen student, Anakin Skywalker. He could remember Anakin clearly, both his personality and looks. Age had by no means ruined his memory.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a small figure enter his range of sight. Blue-eyed and blonde-haired like his father before him, though small in heighth like his mother, Luke Skywalker looked at Obi-Wan and Vader's battle worriedly. Obi-Wan looked over at him, feeling his heart ache with sadness. He prayed that the son would not suffer the fate of the father.
He knew what sacrifice was, and he knew that he would have to give up his own life to allow Luke and his companions- his twin sister, Leia and the cocky pilot, Han- the chance to escape. He was not afraid of death; like all the jedi before him, he knew he would become one with the force. He was unaware how this would play out, however.
As he told himself, though, he would just have to leave it to the force to guide the future as it saw fit. Preparing himself, Obi-Wan raised his lightsaber, not in defense or attack, but in resignation.
Vader's lightsaber flashed at him, cutting the aged Jedi Knight in half, and everything went black.
