A/N: My first Lily/Snape fic. It's only one-sided, of course, and it takes place a little after Lily's death. Warning: Pretty angsty. Yeah, I know, you're surprised I'm writing angst. I can write it if I want to!

Based off 'Pretty, Pretty' by The Early November.

Pretty, Pretty

Severus took in a long-suffering sigh and stared out the window. It was beginning to rain.

What a perfect time to do this, he thought as he fumbled around in his desk for parchment and a quill.

Dear Evans, he started, but paused soon after. Something didn't sound right. That was what he had always called her in school, but…

Now she was dead, so he supposed it didn't really matter. He crossed it out and started again.

Dear Lily,

I'm sorry. I never really meant for all this to happen. But then again, you were supposed to be with me, not that Potter. If you had loved me…

Severus stopped again and scribbled out the last part.

You were supposed to be with me, not Potter. I suppose it's a little late for that.

I remember you're wedding day. I wanted to march up to the altar so badly… I wanted to stop the wedding before you could marry him. So you could marry me.

I didn't, obviously. I was too much of a coward.

Maybe someday I'll have more courage. But then again, courage is for Gryffindors like you.

Is that why you married him? Because he's a Gryffindor?

Snape crossed out the last two sentences again. Merlin, this was hard.

I hope you're in a perfect place. Somewhere where the skies are really beautiful, all of the time. You always liked to watch the sky.

Do you remember…

Severus took a deep breath and placed a hand over his heart. It was beating so fast…

Do you remember when we watched the sunset together?

You probably don't.

But I do. Severus didn't add that part.

I miss you, though. I still love you, too. Yes, I love you.

And that's all that really matters, I guess. Now that you're gone, I suppose all that I can love is memories.

You'll always be…

Severus thought about the last bit. What was Lily to him? A friend? Someone who cared… a shoulder to cry on?

You'll always be pretty. You were always so pretty, so pretty, and that's what you'll remain. I'll always remember you as the pretty one, the one I loved.

Severus

Snape smiled at the letter. Yes, this was perfect.

Now if only she could read it.

With one last look at the parchment, he crumpled it in his hands and threw it in the fire that warmed him from the fireplace.

If only she could read it…
