Normally, he wouldn't even pay attention to it, but right now, with the throbbing headache he has thanks to a game of Shougi gone wrong (no details disclosed), he can't help but notice. And be very, very annoyed by it.

Whatever he does hands against his ears, pillow over his head, it just won't go away: In fact, the notorious humming only seems to increase with every second, like a persistent bee believing that his head is, indeed, an oddly colored juicy pineapple, a bug that won't go away until it's had a sip of the non-existent sweet nectar in Shikamaru's fruit-shaped skull.

Then there's that rattling sound, of the cups and plates shaking about as they are being cleaned. They cling and clang and clatter in an irregular pattern, completely off-key, like the worst amateur orchestra ever, and the cacophony their bustling produces only adds to his torture.

Not to mention the very audible splashing of the hot water, as it bangs against the fake iron, moved by an unknown amount of force, the cursing in the kitchen every time soap spills over onto the floor, and the footsteps when the other person present in this house patters to the other side of the room to retrieve the towel always used for swiping the baby barf-colored floor tiles.

If he had to rate the noises, though, the humming would be the winner, scoring 10 out of 10 on the scale of Annoying Sounds That You Should Not Be Forced To Listen To While You Have A Bad Bad Headache.

It takes only seconds before the Nara can no longer stand the noise, and he rises from his face-down position on the couch, and stumbles over to the door of the kitchen, midgets hammering against the inside of his skull with every move he makes. One hand pressed against his temple, he reaches out with the unoccupied one, grasp the handle of the door and yanks it open, scowling at Temari, who, slightly surprised at such a display of aggression from him, can't help but turn her head away from the sink for a moment, placing down the cup she'd been washing.

Shikamaru just stares for a moment, and then moans. ''Temari, stop singing!''

Really, all the noise that woman makes is no hair better than the sounds of the dishwasher he refused to buy.
