I Never Knew

Kagome and Bankotsu were stuck in a cave because of the rain. Kagome ran off from the others because of what Inuyasha said to her when she found him and Kikyo together. She had been wandering around in the rain and found the cave. Kagome now sat at a corner shivering.

"Damn it's cold out there…" Bankotsu shivered and went in to the cave. He sat down and closed his eyes. Then he noticed kagome crying and shaking against the wall. 'Maybe I should kill her right now…' he thought.

"Oi, wench, you ok?" he walked over to kagome, he left his Banryu leaning against the cave wall. Kagome looked up into Bankotsu's eyes, she started tearing up and she closed her eyes. "I asked you a question, kagome are you alright?" he repeated himself more once more. "H-he betrayed me… how could he?" kagome whimpered defenceless. 'Sigh… just this once, I'll spare her life.' Bankotsu thought as he sat down beside her.

"You know my mother use to say 'if a man hurts you more than once, he'll do it again.'. My father left my mother when I was young, so my mother practically raised me on her own. I grew up hating people around me. When I was 10 my mother died, I left my home to wander in the woods, and I trusted no one other than myself. Kill whatever stood in my way but I wanted to be good. All those years of being alone, I never wanted to be hurt by anyone." Bankotsu said as if it was not long ago.

"I-I'm so sorry, I never knew. I'm sorry we tried to hurt you…" kagome started to cry, she felt sorry for him. Bankotsu pulled her towards him and wrapped his arms around her. She leaned her head against his chest and felt at peace. Kagome fell asleep in his arms; they stayed like that for a long time.

He studied her face, he too felt at peace. 'She's beautiful, she's so peaceful.' He thought as his fingers traced her lips. Then he too fell asleep. When kagome woke up she was staring into his eyes. "You're awake, good morning gorgeous." Bankotsu whispered into her ear. "Kagome, I would never hurt you, I know you must despise me to hell, but I think you're beautiful, I really like you." He felt relieved that he got that off his chest. "I-I like you too, I would never hurt you either now that I know what you went through. Can I please stay with you now that the rest of the band of seven died, I have nowhere to go." She started sobbing as soon as she realized that what happened as real. "Of course you can, let's go get your belongings, and then we can go make camp." Bankotsu replied as he pulled her in for a hug. He carried her along the way; she leaned into his chest and drifted off to sleep once more.
