"It's slipping!"

"Hold it! Tightly!"

Crash!

"You idiot! That was the Mirror of Erised you just dropped!"

"I told you it was slipping!"

"Ugh, just grab it, and all the pieces you can get. We need to get back. I know Dumbledore is letting the Ministry take this, but I don't think he'd be happy that we broke a mirror in the entrance hall of his school. And an angry Dumbledore is not someone I want to deal with."

"We're already going to have seven years of bad luck."

"We're working for the Ministry. Let them take the blame."

"I got all the pieces I can. The rest just looks like dust. Glittery dust. It's gonna be hard to get it all. Why don't I just…"

"PUT YOUR WAND AWAY, YOU IDIOT! YOU CAN'T USE MAGIC ON THE MIRROR OF ERISED! WHY DO YOU THINK WE'RE CARRYING IT THE MUGGLE WAY?"

"It's fine, calm down–"

"PUT YOUR WAND AWAY! One, it's a mirror. Any spell you cast on it will be reflected. And, two, it's an old, magical artifact. We don't know what magic it has. You could blow us all up with the wrong spell."

"Fine. What do you think we should do to clean it up, Oh Wise One?"

"Shut up. We'll just take the mirror outside, then come back and sweep it up. If we hurry, we can get it before the students come down for breakfast."

"'Kay. I'll open the door, and then I'll take my side."

"Yeah."

"Merlin! Shut the door, shut the door!"

"Ah, Merlin's beard, now what?"

The two Ministry employees stood in the middle of the Entrance Hall. Moments ago, there had been a ring of powdered glass from the Mirror. Now, the powder was everywhere. It was virtually invisible, save for the glittering all over the floor.

"Ah, Morgana, why'd you have to open the door?"

"You told me to open it! I didn't know it would be so windy! Besides, what does it matter? It's just powder now. It can't hurt anybody."

"It's glass from the Mirror of Erised. We don't know what it can do."

"And what we don't know can't hurt us, right?"

"What if it hurts someone else? We should tell the staff."

"Alright, but you get to tell Dumbledore."

"… You know, it's just powder. It's broken. It'll be fine."

I hope you like it. I originally wrote it as a preface for a longer story (one of those 'reading the books' affairs). I dont know if I'll post the rest of it, it just kind of depends on how people like this and if they want me to continue it =)
