Just a short little song fic. The song is called "I Dreamed a Dance" from Next to Normal. Enjoy!
Molly Weasley was a strong, proud, family oriented woman. Her entire being revolved around her husband and their seven children. Their happiness was her happiness. Their sadness was her sadness. Their grief would never match her grief though.Sunlight streamed through the bedroom window that she had occupied by herself since the war ended. Molly shut her eyes as tightly as she could to block out the light. She rolled onto her other side, the windows now behind her. A part of her knew she should get out of bed. There were mouths to feed and a house to keep clean. But she was too tired, too exhausted, too hurt to move. Her son was gone; her Fred, killed by Death Eaters at the Battle of Hogwarts.Life wasn't worth living anymore. There were times she swore she saw Fred - in the garden that her window overlooked, whenever she entered his childhood bedroom, standing by the foot of her bed. Each time she closed her eyes she saw her son again, and tears would sting her eyes the moment she would awaken. She longed for her Fred again, longed to be whole once more.
Footsteps pounded the stairs as voices filled the air. Molly wanted to tell them to shut up, that it was disrespectful to Fred' memory to cause such a ruckus. A bottle of sleeping drought sat on her bedside table and she quickly took a dose in hopes of seeing Fred once more. I saw you light the ballroom
With your sparkling eyes so blue
Graceful as an angel's wing
I dreamed a dance with you
Fred.
He extended his hand to her as music began to play.
You whispered slyly, softly
You told me you would be true
We spun around a thousand stars
I dreamed a dance with you"I've missed you so much," she whispered as their waltz went on. Above them, despite the ceiling, the night sky was illuminated by millions of brightly shining stars. Her gaze moved from the light above to the light in her son's eyes. Her hand caressed his cheek, afraid that if she was not close enough, he may disappear. "It's lonely without you."
"I've missed you too," Fred replied, squeezing her hand comfortingly. "But you've got the rest of the family, Mum. They need you more than I do now."
"But I need you," she insisted, fingering his long red locks. "I used to hate this style on you."
Fred grinned, remembering the times she would beg him and George to get a more clean cut look. "I wanted to match George," he replied simply.
I know the night is dying dear
I know the day will dawnTheir waltz continued as the band played on and on. She never wanted this dream to end. Their time together was never long enough, and she would awake longing for their next encounter.
The sky overhead was starting to brighten, and Fred's grip on her loosened.
The dancers may disappear
Still the dance goes on
And on"I'm always here," he assured her. "For as long as you need me, I'll be here."
Tears stung Molly's eyes as Fred spoke, a smile piquing his lips. His long fingers brushed away the moisture.
"I'll always need you," she murmured, pulling him to her.
"I love you, Mum," Fred whispered in her ear.
I'll wake alone tomorrow
The dream of our dance is through
But now until forever love
I'll live to dance with you
I'll dream my love
I'll live my love
And I'll die to dance
"I love you too, Fred," she whispered as her eyes opened.
