Cold wind whipped his shaggy hair around his face. A hurricane, with the eye just off the coast, had been pouring rain down for the entire day…a perfect day for staying inside, for staying in bed.
Staying in bed, that was exactly what Jasper had done…but not with him.
Seth couldn't hate Alice; he had never been able to. But she had finally won. Jasper was hers. He had lost it all…his love gone, frozen like the freezing water that crashed against the cliff he stood on.
Pebbles broke off under his bare feet and fell down. Seth watched them with a certain sort of detachment. He cast one slow glance behind, he didn't know what he expected but he had hoped Jasper would come looking when he didn't show up in their clear at their agreed upon meeting time. But the forest was empty, the wildlife hidden away from the storm. Turning his gaze back to the ocean Seth blinked slowly to keep the tears at bay.
"You've lost me," he whispered, his words ripped away by the wind. Swallowing hard he turned his back to the ocean, spread his arms out and tipped his weight backward.
The only thing worse than the feel of the freezing water as he hit was the cry he heard just before.
"SETH!"
