Salve Regina
By SMYGO4EVA
There is no denying it.
There is pain everywhere; from the inside and out and we mourn and weep until we could find a way to undo that pain or we wait until death comes to claim us. We have demons to fight inside ourselves and we all have crosses to bear, hoping to take them to the grave so we would finally feel peace at last.
But is it all worth it?
Is the pain, anguish, and revenge-seeking all worth it, just for those few moments of clarity?
No one really knew.
Sakura didn't seek vengeance on anyone. She had so many questions though.
What did Fei Wong Reed want with her memories?
What would he accomplish with them?
These questions constantly pricked and poked her, at all hours of the night and in the catacombs of her dreams.
She just didn't know.
Fai didn't seek vengeance on anyone either. He just wanted to get away.
Away from it all.
Away from the horrifying reality that was his past.
Away from the decimation of his twin.
Away from the one that was named Ashura.
How he loathed the name.
How he had such mixed feelings for it.
Was Ashura really the one who caused all his troubles?
Or was it really his one doing?
He really had no idea.
He tossed and turned at his dreams, his nightmares, his wanting to forget everything.
It was so unclear.
Both Sakura and Fai sought salvation from their inner demons.
Whether they were worry, self doubt, or fear.
Sakura didn't want to show any sadness.
Fai didn't want to reveal his own turmoil.
They both had crosses to bear.
They both had something to hide.
Fai lost someone near and dear to him and he wished with all his heart that the past could be undone, that his mistake could be reversed, but that wasn't the case with him. He never wanted anyone to realize that he held a lot of pain so he would just smile and nod. That was a façade that he played out to everyone just so he wouldn't be a burden to them, just as he was a burden to his country and to his dear twin brother. He turned to the dark of night so no one would see him be a weakling, a slave to his emotions, and someone who was vulnerable, for someone who had to be strong, it had to be him.
Sakura didn't want to be weak, nor did she want to be strong. She barely had any recollection of her dear friend Syaoran, and he was risking his life to get all of her feathers back to her. Memories were falling from her and she was helpless against destiny's will for her, her voce merely an echo for its wavering course upon the world. She was just another piece of the puzzle that fate placed her in, and if she wasn't to remember, death would come to her quickly. The sweet release would give her peace, and yet she wanted to live and have a reason to live, but the latter was harder to find if all she was doing was giving others pain and misery along the way.
They both felt the darkness' pull.
It was inevitable that they were cursed.
They were vulnerable to sorrow. It was the honest truth, as sorrow pierced the barriers of resolve and strength, leaving them to be nothing but shells of who they previously were. They were illusions of their past selves, carrying the appearance of a dear one, but clearly puppets in a cruel game. Sadness would consume them and leave them with nothing, with the songs of their dearly departed ones leaving them in shambles.
Fai would exist no more.
Sakura would exist nevermore.
His soul no longer lived in the fantasy he played for himself and others.
Her soul was merely a chess piece in a game of fate.
They felt nothing.
Nothing at all.
Sacrifice was the key to this, and everything was left in silence.
The ribbons of death claimed them, as the sweet release they've always wanted.
Their salvation had finally come.
Salve Regina.
Hail, Holy Queen.
