Short drabble written early morning yesterday after seeing Deathly Hallows again the night before.

Teddy wasn't sure if Harry realised he was being watched. The sun had only just risen and the sky was slurred with red and gold. Harry walked purposefully away from the house, his shadows magnified in the uneven light. The stars had long since faded away, leaving the morning frost to glitter on its own.

He stood, barefooted in the snow, breath rising in clouds as he murmured another spell, the air rippling at his wand's touch.

"Protego Totalum. Salvio Hexia. Cave Inimicum." He whispered as he traced the circumference of the house. Teddy wondered if he ever felt safe, or if this was a result of one of his godfather's many nightmares. As Harry paced, he wanted nothing more than to assure him it was all okay.

"Teddy, dear, come away from the window now." His grandmother murmured, placing a warm hand on his shoulder. He leant into the touch, but did not take his eyes away from the figure on the lawn below.

"Why does he do that?" Teddy asked, but he knew the answer. He was plagued by a sense of self-loathing for his passiveness, his inability to make his own godfather feel safe; but this was nothing on the anger he felt for the forces that drove Harry to such unrest.

"It's to protect us, Ted." His grandmother said, gently pulling him away from the window. "He doesn't want anything bad to happen to us, so he protects us."

Teddy wanted to say it was silly, that the war was long over and the threat had passed, but something in Andromeda's tone made him stay quiet.

Out on the lawn below, his godfather finished his spells and trudged back inside, a sense of peace following him at last. All was well.
