I do not own Law and Order SVU.
My name is Detective Katrina Williamson. I used to work in Narcotics but I was just transformed to SVU. If one of my coworkers were to describe me they would say I was tough. I guess that's what I project to the world. Because of my past, I don't let people walk over me. The first person I met in SVU was Detective Munch. He saw me as I was setting up my desk. "Hi," he said, "You must be new. I'm Detective Munch, call me John."
"Detective Katrina Williamson."
"Nice to meet you. My partner Brian is around your age. He just went to get coffee."
A few minutes later a handsome man walked into the police station and handed Munch a cup of coffee. Munch spoke to him for a minute and then he came over to me.
"Hey, I'm Brian."
"Katrina."
"So you're new."
"Transferred from Narcotics."
"Really? I might be transferring to Narcotics."
"Don't."
"Why?"
"SVU helps people in a way that Narcotics never will."
I got up and went to the coffee machine then. He followed me; "So do want to go get a beer after work or something?"
"Not really."
"Okay, sorry I asked."
He looked so disappointed so I offered to go to the movies with him, "We could go to the movies."
He stared at me, "If you want to." I added quickly.
"Sure."
We ended up going to some romantic comedy because it was between that and a murder mystery. I couldn't help but feel I was falling in love with him. After the movie we were both hungry so we went to an Italian restaurant for dinner.
I asked him why he wanted to leave SVU.
"I don't like having to heard about the terrible things that happen to people."
"Neither do I. But I don't like knowing people do bad things and not being able to help the people that are affected by them. That's why I became a cop."
"But doesn't it bother you?"
"Of course it bothers me. It bothers everyone. That's what makes being a cop so hard."
"I guess you're right."
"So will you stay?" I ask.
"I guess I will."
"That's good."
"So what's your story?" He asks.
"I don't tell people my story on the first date."
"Well, where did you grow up?"
"I was born in El Paso, but my parents divorced when I was eight. He went to Tulsa and she went to a small town in Tennessee so I moved back and forth summers with her and school years with him. Where did you grow up?"
"Long Island till I was ten then we moved to the city."
We paid the bill and left the restaurant. I decided it was my turn to ask him something.
"Why did you become a cop?"
"I wanted to do something with my life."
"Me too. I didn't want to die without helping someone."
He leans over and kisses me softly.
I pause; surprised, and then I kiss back.
If it had been anyone else I would have pushed him away but for some reason Brian is different. I just met him today but I could imagine spending the rest of my life with him. Maybe we're soul mates or something.
