A/N: so here's my first Stand By Me fanfic, please review!
Chris's POV
This was it. The big moment. The one we had been waiting for for four weeks.
"Has the jury reached a verdict?" the judge asked formally. The jury foreman nodded.
"The jury finds the accused… guilty of all charges." No.
There was a collective sigh of either relief or despair, depending on which side of the court room you were on.
"The sentence will be carried out on March 25th, 1977," the judge announced. I didn't hear the rest of what he said, I was in a daze. The sentence will be carried out on March 25th… three days from now. I turned to my client.
"I'm so sorry," I said, not really knowing what else to say. She had a fierce look in her eyes.
"But I didn't do it," she said, firmly yet quietly. "Why can't the fucking jury get it through their goddamn heads that I DIDN'T DO IT!"
"Stephanie, calm down," I said, grasping her shoulders. "I know you didn't do it. I'll look over everything again tonight. I'll reread all of the witness statements. I will get you out of this."
She nodded and took a deep breath. "Okay," she said. "I believe you. But if you don't get me out of this, I will be severely pissed." I somehow managed a smile.
The guards were taking her away when it finally hit me that I probably wouldn't find another piece of evidence, or a loophole in the witness statements. My client, Stephanie Avery Lachance, was going to get the death penalty for something she didn't do.
A/N: well...?
