---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

He knows that he seems desolate, that his words are taken like brass tacks – shining but sharp.

Feels like he's swallowing them one by one when Bartlet shifts his words.

Feels like he swallowing everything lately.

The sharp points of Andrea's anger, her own desolation.

He swallows his guilt at denying his children, shattered glass on his throat.

Claudia Jean's dagger betrayal is a (dull) blade.

But he won't bleed.

He'll just swallow it down.

------------------

She recognizes his distaste in the reflection of his disposition. She mentions Ben's name and receives the cool fabric on his shoulder instead of the remembered warmth of his chest. CJ never wondered whether he would show his displeasure with Ben; she knew he would. But in an array of words, a collection of diatribes and arguments.

She never wanted dull silence.

A flag of surrender when he turns and swallows his (pain) words.
