Victoire's POV

Victoire laughed as she sat beside Teddy on the sand throne Daddy had made them. The tide was coming in, slowly washing their throne away. When she glanced at the adults, Victoire saw Maman holding a camera, while Daddy stood with an arm around her waist. Daddy was holding a tired, 17 month old Dominique in his other arm. Teddy's Gran, called Grandy by Victoire, stood beside them cradling 1 month old Louis. Victoire watched as Maman pressed her lips against Daddy's. It didn't last long, only a couple of seconds, but it made Victoire feel safe. She liked seeing her parents love for each other.

Her attention was drawn back to Teddy, as she saw him pick up a clump of sand. He tried to pat it on to the throne where some sand had been worn away by the tide. It didn't work. The sand promptly fell, taking more with it, making the state of the throne worse. Victoire laughed.

"Let's see you do it then," said Teddy.

"Ok."

Victoire leant down and picked up some sand and tried to fix it to their throne. Her attempt wasn't much better than Teddy's. He grinned at her. Victoire elbowed her friend in response before trying again. This time some of the sand stuck. Teddy's grin disappeared.

"I did it!" said Victoire, "and you can't."

"I'm not going to be beaten by a girl," muttered Teddy.

With that he started crawling around the throne, attempting to patch up the damage done by the tide. Victoire quickly joined in, determined not to be outdone by the older child. The competition quickly escalated when Victoire threw water at Teddy to try and put him off. The two children soon forgot their throne, they were too busy throwing water at each other. It wasn't until Teddy attempted to duck down behind the throne for cover, that they noticed how much had been washed away by the tide. There wasn't enough to hide behind now.

"Whoops," said Victoire.

"It was going to happen. The sea washes everything on the beach away," Teddy informed Victoire in his annoying 'I'm-older-so-I-know-more-than-you' voice.

"I know that. I'm not stupid," said Victoire.

Teddy didn't answer. He tried to stand up but fell over. Victoire felt her annoyance at Teddy disappear as she looked at the bedraggled boy. Her usual affection for her friend returned as she helped him up.

"Thanks," said Teddy.

Remembering how Maman had shown her affection for Daddy, Victoire leant up on her tiptoes and quickly pressed her lips to Teddy's. She smiled shyly at him but Teddy wiped the back of his hand across his mouth.

"Eww," he said, "girl germs."

A wave of hurt welled up inside Victoire. She turned away so Teddy wouldn't see the tears prickling in her eyes. She ran over to the adults, wanting her Maman and Daddy.

"Stupide Teddy," said Victoire.
