Disclaimer: I don't own the Mentalist. Also, this I created this fic's cover from a screencap loaded to Fanpop by yrmalo entitled "love in the c.b.i.".
A/N: I've never been much of a Rigsby/Van Pelt shipper. I don't have anything against them as a couple, they've just never really hit my buttons, you know? But they were very sweet this episode, so… here's a little snippet of what might have happened after the cameras stopped rolling.
Just a friendly reminder: This is an episode tag, so it contains major spoilers for 5x20. Read no further unless you've already seen the episode or don't mind being spoiled!
"What about Duncan from LA?" Wayne panted as they stumbled their way into the bedroom.
"I don't really want to talk about him right now, if you know what I mean," Grace said, eyes glinting.
"Grace," he said seriously.
"He's gay, OK?" Grace said. "I told you it wasn't like that."
"Oh."
"Yeah. 'Oh,'" Grace said gently, pushing him onto the bed and straddling him. "Now enough about Duncan."
He happily obliged.
Some time later as they lay in the afterglow, Wayne said, "She was wrong, you know."
"Huh?" Grace said, lifting her head from the pillow.
"That woman. The killer," Wayne said. "I won't get tired of you. I could never get tired of you."
A soft look in her eyes, Grace responded, "I know. That's what decided it for me. She was telling me that one day you wouldn't want me anymore and it hit me that she didn't know you at all. And not just because you're an honorable man, Wayne."
She placed her hand on his chest and continued, "And you are, you know. It's one of the reasons I love you. But – it's more than just a sense of honor, with you. You said that you still felt the same way about me that you did when we first met. After all we've been through, all I've done, you still look at me like I'm someone special. And when she was spewing that vitriol, you looked at her like she was speaking a foreign language; like you couldn't even begin to comprehend where she was coming from."
"You are someone special," Wayne told her.
"So are you," Grace said simply and snuggled back into his arms.
