One-shot. This takes place at the bureau, in no particular time frame. Just a night where they are getting along, before all the craziness. So I hope you enjoy it! I loved writing it!
"Have you thought about what our lives will be like when this is all over?" Tobias rolled over in cot, to look at her.
"All the time," he grumbled half asleep. Tris was wide awake, and her mind was going a million miles a minute.
"I can't even fathom it, and I begin to wonder why that is, then I remember what we go through everyday. There is so much is going now that I have to think about, I don't have the energy to imagine a future. I mean whose to say we even make it through this war, because chances are we won't."
"Please don't think like that," he said, more awake this time, "because I do think of our future. I chose to believe that we are going to get through this. Together, we started a revolution in a city of a convergent mind. We are going to get through this, so please won't talk like we won't."
Tris nodded and moved closer to her boyfriend, as he leaned in to kiss her. They engaged in short, sweet kisses for a good minute before Tris pulled away only enough to put her forehead on Tobias' shoulder. He proceeded to kiss the top of her head.
After a moment, Tris continued her verbal thinking process, "When you think about the future, what do you picture?"
Tobias smiled as he stayed as close to her as he could. "Well, there's you and me. We have wedding bands on our fingers, and a couple little kids running around. We have a beautiful little girl, she's just like you in every way. Smart as a whip, with dazzling eyes and long blonde hair. She is like me and you in how strong she is, would go to her grave believing she knows best, even if she was dead wrong. Then we have a son, a few years younger, and big as a brick. He is stubborn and difficult, but he always does these little things that make us laugh-"
The whole time Tobias was explaining his thoughts, Tris was watching him in amazement. "Like what?"
"Like, telling a joke that we've heard a thousand times, but adding all these expressions to it, with his face and his hand. It would turn into something completely new, and he does these things so effortlessly."
"I love you," Tobias leaned in again to kiss his girlfriend.
"I love you too," he whispered when they seperated.
"What do we name them?" Tris inquired.
"I guess that's for you to figure out," he left it open-ended hoping she would fill it in.
"That's not at all what I expected you to say. I thought you would tell me how the war ends, what system of government we adapt to, what our housing is like... Stuff like that."
"Hmmm..."
They both leaned back to the respective sides of the cots. Tobias fell back asleep almost immediately, but Tris pondered what they had talked about. Could she even afford to dream up a future for them? Was it worth it? Would they even win this was with the bureau and the factions? Would they side with the bureau? Or go back into the city's rebellion they had created? I guess she just got her answer.
Such a cliff hanger! Sorry, no continuation. This is a one-shot. It was so bitter/sweet to write. How was it for y'all to read? Let me know! Give me a review and check back for new stories and updates!
